Thanks to Lucy for finding the Educreations site. There are lots of useful screencasts for a variety of subjects and topics – created by teachers and students.
However, there is also an iPad app which lets you create your own videos (it can be done through your internet browser too.) These videos can then be set as homework – the students can watch, make notes, pause, rewind, answer questions, write down their own questions at their own pace and come ready to the lesson to put their learning into practice. This concept is known as ‘Flipped Learning’ and encourages independent learning and helps to move the students further away from the teacher-centered model of the classroom. If you want to read more about Flipped Learning then this site is an excellent place to start.
Flipped Learning might be a good topic for one of our Learning and Teaching Communities to investigate in the future.
