One of the infinite number of extra functions the iPad seems to have that I have been using recently is the dictionary function. You can hold your finger down over a word to highlight it, tap ‘define’ and a box pops up with the definition. This speeds up the process of reading without having to stop, find a dictionary then go back to the right section of the text. This works on a web page or on most forms of text article. It is demonstrated below by one of my Year 8 students reading an extract from ‘In Black and White’ – the story of Jesse Owens which I posted as a word document in to Edmodo for the class to access.
