John Hattie has produced a huge and very influential study on what works in the classroom. He has published several books on this evidence based approach to teaching. The video below is a good introduction and summary to his main ideas. In it, he outlines his findings on feedback, relationships, expectations and challenge (and failure).
He concludes the presentation (there is also a first part to it on youtube) by summarising what he wants teachers to do/have:
– clear learning intentions
– challenging success criteria
– range of learning strategies
– knowing when students are not progressing
– providing feedback
– learning themselves
