The book that explains Public Critique in more depth is by Ron Berger and is titled ‘ethics of excellence’. I have a copy if anyone wants to borrow!
In SoS, as part of our introduction to ‘Reflection’ we have been teaching the students about the idea of ‘kind, specific and helpful’ feedback. We have shown then and discussed the video above. It will be interesting to see how they apply what they have learned to peer assessment in other lessons as we continue to reinforce this in SoS lessons.
Peer feedback (if not done properly) can be useless or even damaging. However, if structured in the right way and with the right training for students, peer assessment can be very effective.
